caltech [17 Mar 2007|11:13pm]
My first college rejection.

Of course I'm a little disappointed, but I have some reasons to look on the bright side.

First of all, getting in was a long shot anyway.  Caltech takes only 215 students a year, and my number were not too spectacular.

Second of all, my parents didn't really want me going there.  They felt that it was horrible socially, and on some levels, I kindof agree with them.

Let's see what the other colleges have to say...

Got into college!! [01 Feb 2007|01:25pm]

I got into.....

UC Riverside.

Not exactly my number one choice, but its a UC, and not SMC.  Just nice to know I can go somewhere.

Plus they offered me a multi-thousand dollar scholarship.

Mr. King [11 Jan 2007|05:00pm]
Does anybody know when/ if Mr. King is coming back to Uni?   If so, do you think a Welcome Back party would cheer him up, or would it be too awkward?

What happens when the machines gain self awareness? [05 Sep 2006|10:49pm]
[ mood | creative ]

Seems as if computers really are the present and future of our lives.  Not since the days leading up to the stock market crash of '29 are people purchasing products blindly that those people have no clue as to how they really work, or how cheaply they can make simple devices as these from scratch.  Really, if I could develop a mystical phone that attaches to one's computer (EUREKA!!), instant millions.  Not only are the wealthy charitably pouring their investments into these adancements, but now even the middle and lower class are required to adapt to the new technologies that provide "increased simlpicity."
Does are future with electronics provide greater relaxation? Absolutely.  But are we wastefully training our population the ins and outs with these glorious gadgets, when this mindspace could be used for freethought and creativity?  How often will a new invention change the course of history, and dumb us down even more?   Will it continue so that a computer will tell us how to run our lives?  If so, don't deny you will be strong enough to obey them.  No rebellion will get in the way of "advancement."
If you have time in your busy lives, maybe it is worthwhile to learn what this big box you're reading this post from actually does, and how.

P.S. props to anyone who gets the title reference.

T. A. [24 Aug 2006|10:08pm]
I plan to shift my TA period from just crashing in Baker's room to some regular algebra class.  LAUSD scores on the CAHSEE are miserably low, so I think I might as well use my free period to give back to my high school.  If anyone knows of a second period algebra class, let me know.

last day of school [06 Jul 2006|08:56pm]
Most last-day-of-schools are pretty similar. The campus is empty and I debate my grades with teachers. Somehow I end up sitting in Ms. Bryer's class where she is talking to none other than Mr. Paulsen! They talk about the stuff I expect them to, like why Mr. Paulsen is Republican, etc. Then they begin talking about returning teachers. The first 2 names i dont remember, but hearing the third name paralyzed me from the waist up (which is why im writing about the last day of school 2 weeks later):

Karen Crowley.

Not even.

Now I shouldn't be as throttled by her name because I know I will probably never be her student again, but my brother is coming to uni next year....

March Madness [02 Apr 2006|12:40pm]
[ mood | aggravated ]

March was a very interesting month. First of all, the AP Physics war really started to heat up. Latest news is that some administrator scolded Ms. Ishimaru for proposing Mr. Ransom, and Mcgehee now says that Freedman doesnt need to be qualified to teach AP physics. Now if Botko IS qualified to teach an AP, i can only imagine what kind of class we might get with n unqualified teacher. For those of you in the AP phys class next year, try to be a little nicer to Mr. Ransom this year, so he doesnt leave the school and we get stuck with learning physics with someone else.

Second, NCAA basketball was pretty crazy (go UCLA!) It's also nice that the finals are on the same day as baseball's opening day. There will be no day when I am without sports!!

Has anyone noticed that March is the only month in the year where we dont get a single vacation day? This country needs another holiday... let's just change St. Patrick's day to National Beer Day and get a day off. Wow, that was too easy.

until then,
C Wo

Yes, this is an unofficial holiday. Yes, i celebrate it. No, i didnt have to fast.

This year, actually, i was a super bowl aetheist.  i did not watch the game.  Instead, i went

Went up to Mountain High at about 10, and when we got there, the place was empty....Except for the bar.  It took a while to learn how to snowboard, but i figured it out eventually.  The rush of cool air going across your face while you speed down the slope is fantastic.

the tardy petition [19 Jan 2006|05:24pm]
If you have not already signed the tardy sweep petition, there are ppl going around school with papers. I'm sure u will be able to find them so u can sign it. I apologize to anyone who thinks attendance is more important than education.

The only thing I worry about is if it has any affect at all. I mean, does Uni's board of directors listen to students?

More tales of: Superb Uni Communication [17 Jan 2006|06:45pm]
[ mood | relieved ]

So Ms. Goldman calls peter, gi bum, shan, and me into her office during 4th period.  (Good, we had something to do while a sub tried to get our class to do calc hw.)  So she checks with all of us about our high school credits, and says we're all on the right track.  Then she tells us that our PSATs came in.  (Finally!!)

I'm relieved, and I'm sure she was relieved because now we would stop bugging her about them.  Then she tells us that they came into the counseling office on the 14th

Apparantly, nobody told her that they were there.  Only Uni.....

Btw, did anyone notice a colorful blimp flying around LA the past few days? I assume it was for MLK day, but I could be wrong.

Fasting... [10 Jan 2006|05:25pm]
My fast is over now. Yes I'm relieved, but ending this fast feels different than other years. Despite the fact that fasting is becoming easier to me, it is not always easy concntrating on, or even remembering, why it is that I fast on specific days.

Today marks the day on the Jewish calendar when the Babylonians began their seige on Jerusalem over 2500 years ago, during the years of the first Holy Temple. By fasting, we are supposed to be mourning for the loss of the Holy Temple. When the Holy Temple was standing, Jews prospered more than any other time in history.
Two other fasts for the Holy Temple are in the summer, when we fast for the destruction of Jerusalem's walls, and the Temple's destruction 3 weeks later.

Hope this clears things up for people wondering why I fast, and for those that fast but don't know why.

It hurted [15 Dec 2005|10:08pm]
I'm in pain. Not the kind of " AP classes/school are killing me" kind of pain, but actual physical pain. The kind of pain that makes me want to pull my teeth out of their sockets. I'm in more pain than the guy who got his ear bitten by Mike Tyson. Those orthodontists didnt put just one wire in, but tied in another wire, just for fun. How long have the rest of u had braces/retainers?

8 years and counting, beat that!!
